Understanding Feminism
Feminism is a movement that seeks to promote gender equality and end discrimination against women. It is about recognizing that women have been historically disenfranchised and oppressed by patriarchal power structures, and seeking to dismantle these structures to create a more equitable society for everyone.
Who is a Feminist?
A Feminist is anyone who supports feminism and its goals; advocating for women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.
Many people misunderstand feminism, thinking it is about hating men or pushing for women to be superior to men. However, feminists recognize that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities in all aspects of life, and advocate for women to break free from the shackles of patriarchal thinking to live their lives on their own terms.
Becoming a feminist can be the ultimate act of self-love for women because it allows us to recognise our worth and value as individuals.
Watch Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, renowned Nigerian writer, and feminist, talk about why we should all be feminists.
