Finding Your Perfect Fit: How To Accurately Determine Your Bra Size

Updated: Jan 30

Finding the perfect bra fit can be an act of self-love. Honestly! If you have ever experienced the discomfort of an ill-fitting bra — the constant adjustments, the poking underwires, and the dreaded quad-boob effect, you'll get what I mean. But the good news is that worrying about your bra size is about to become a thing of the past. This guide will show you how to find your ideal fit to ensure maximum comfort and support.

Why the Right Bra Fit Matters

Wearing the correct bra size is very important and goes beyond aesthetics; it's about feeling fabulous and confident from within. When your bra fits right, it improves your posture, reduces back pain, and even make your clothes fit better. Plus, who doesn't want their girls to feel like they're floating on a cloud? So, bid adieu to the days of you and your girls settling for less and embrace the joy of a perfectly fitting bra!

Measuring Up: Step by Step

Grab a measuring tape and let's dive in! This measurement is for a US bra fitting. US bra sizes are based on measurements in inches, with the number representing the band size and the letter representing the cup size. However, there is a comprehensive table below that will help you determine the UK/EU equivalent.

  1. Before you start, wear an unpadded bra and a form-fitting shirt to ensure accurate measurements.

  2. Wrap the measuring tape snugly around your torso, just below your bust, and take note of the measurement in inches. This determines the circumference of your ribcage, which is your band size.

3. Next, measure your bust size. Position the tape around the fullest part of your breasts, making sure it sits parallel to the floor. Again, note down the measurement in inches.

Calculating Your Bra Size

Subtract your band measurement from your bust measurement. The difference will determine your cup size.

Each inch corresponds to a cup size, as follows:

  • Less than 1 inch: AA

  • 1 inch: A

  • 2 inches: B

  • 3 inches: C

  • 4 inches: D

  • 5 inches: DD or E

  • 6 inches: DDD or F

  • 7 inches: G

  • And so on...

Now that you know your band size and your cup size, your Bra size will be your band and cup size put together. For example, if your band size is 36 and your cup size is B, then your ideal Bra size is 36B.

Voila! You've cracked the code to finding your perfect bra size. Cheers to uplifted spirits and happy bosoms!

*The table below provides a comprehensive chart of band sizes, cup sizes, and corresponding measurements in inches and centimetres, making it easier for you to find your perfect fit.

Notes and Substitutions

  • If you're between band sizes, opt for the snugger one because bras tend to stretch over time.

  • Different brands may have slight variations in sizing, so don't be afraid to try on a few different sizes to find your holy grail.

  • For additional support, consider adjustable straps, underwire styles, or even sports bras for extra comfort during active pursuits.

  • US and UK cup sizes are not identical, so it's important to refer to the corresponding cup size in the specific sizing system.

  • American brands are transitioning to using E instead of DD and F instead of DDD for cup sizes.

Now that you're armed with the knowledge of your true bra size, go forth and conquer! A well-fitting bra is like a best friend — it supports you, lifts you, and makes you feel amazing. Embrace your newfound bra wisdom and rock it with style.
